This past weekend Bill and I drove to Playa Troncones and Zihuatanejo. It took us six hours to drive from San Miguel de Allende, but the scenery was spectacular. We passed through mountains and drove over lakes.

We stayed at the Tres Mujeres hotel right on the beach. It was a very comfortable hotel and the hosts very very nice. We ate at several nice restaurants on the beach and visited the Manzanillo Bay resort which was perhaps the most beautiful property in Troncones. Each evening there were folks on horseback enjoying the sunsets.

It was Juliet’s first time to the beach and we thought for sure that she’d not like the sand and water, but much to our surprise she had a wonderful time chasing the waves and running in the sand. I’ve never known a dog who didn’t like the beach.

While we were there, we drove the 25 miles from Playa Troncones to Zhuatanejo—our old stomping ground. It was wonderful to see that even though the town has grown, it still hasn’t lost it’s beauty and charm. La Ropa beach, which in the main beach, is still as beautiful as we remembered. The town was busy with tourists and, as always, there was a lot of activity around the fisherman’s landing on the beach.

Our favorite hotel in Zihuatanejo is the Thompson Hotel on La Ropa beach. It has a beautiful pool right on the beach and plenty of palapas for relaxing.

Here are a few photos from our trip. Enjoy!
