Domingo de Carnaval

Today is “crack an egg on someone’s head” day. Or as it’s known in Mexico—Domingo de Carnaval. Eggs are filled with confetti and you’re supposed to break the egg over your loved one’s head. I’m not exactly sure why, but it’s quite a festive notion. We didn’t see too many people walking around with confetti on there heads, but it was very colorful in the El Jardin this morning—lots of

The Murals of Colonia Guadalupe

Saturday morning Kathy and I took a tour of the murals in Colonia Guadalupe. San Miguel de Allende is made up of about a dozen Colonias. Colonia Guadalupe is known for it’s murals. Up until 2013 it was against the law to paint murals in San Miguel de Allende. The tour was great fun and very informative. Here are some of my favorite murals. Enjoy!

Butterfly Sanctuary in Michoacán

I had the privilege of visiting the butterfly sanctuary in Michoacán this past week. I went on a tour with my friend Kathy and her granddaughter Chloe. We stayed at the Agua Blanca Spa the first night and then drove to the sanctuary the next day. I have to say… the sanctuary was like nothing I’ve ever seen before. There were Monarch butterflies everywhere—in the sky, on the trees, on

So Others May Eat (S.O.M.E.)

Serving food to those who are hungry in San Miguel de Allende is a monumental task and this organization serves food to these wonderful people every Wednesday. Bill volunteers to help serve food and today I joined him to take some photos of these folks and the volunteers who make it all possible. Today, children presented warm clothing to the seniors. Enjoy!

A Day in San Miguel de Allende

Just another typical day in San Miguel… We like to walk up the El Jardin, Bill decides to get a shine for 20 pesos ($1 US) while I take photos of the street vendors. Then it’s off to grab a bit to eat at Quince rooftop restaurant which has a beautiful unobstructed of the Parroquia de San MIguel Arcángel. Leaving Quince, I couldn’t help notice the very large chandelier hanging

Danzón San Miguel

Yesterday was the 10th anniversary of Danzón San Miguel so they held a dance in Plaza Civica in Centro. The music was wonderful and there were some really good dancers. There was a nice crowd for the event including a mime and vendors selling bubble-making guns. I got a kick out of the mime using his cell phone. I’m not sure how that conversation would take place—perhaps he only uses

Revolution Day: Faces in the Crowd

Tuesday was the Revolution Day parade. The parade was filled with mostly students in their school uniforms, but there were also a lot of folks in the traditional wear. The women were dressed in bright colors so they were the most fun to photograph. Here are some of the faces in the crowd. Enjoy!
