Panteón Municipal “Luz Eterna”

This is our local cemetery. It’s located about 2 miles up the road from our house. Since Did de Muertos has been pretty much canceled this year due to the virus I thought I’d pay a visit to the cemetery. There are several cemeteries in town and the ones located in centro date back hundreds of years. This cemetery seems a bit newer and is really for the “common” person.

Monarchs Returning to Mexico

It that time of year. It’s time for monarch butterflies to migrate to Michoacán, Mexico. I’ve had the extreme pleasure of witnessing this extraordinary event the last two years, but with COVID-19 this year I’m not sure if people will be able to visit the butterflies. In the meantime, I came across this fantastic video. Check it out. If you would like to read the full article, you can visit

Dolores Hidalgo

Yesterday Bill and I took the girls, Juliet and Harlee, to Dolores Hidalgo. Dolores Hidalgo is considered a Pueblo Magico and a wonderful town about 40 minutes from San Miguel de Allende. We strolled around the centro and visited some of the gift shops. Bill met couple of Harley guys that were visiting the town from northern Mexico. After touring the park and shops we went to Vicente’s for some

Mexican Independence

Wednesday was Mexican Independence. San Miguel de Allende started off the holiday with a fireworks display Tuesday night. I went over to our friends Kathy and Michael’s house where we had a nice view of the Parroquia in centro from the rooftop. The fireworks show was really something and we didn’t know it at the time, but there were a total six different fireworks displays all around town. Here are

Thunderstorm in SMA

We had the most amazing thunderstorm last night. There was lightning in every direction so I decided to go out and see if I couldn’t capture a few photos. This was the first time I’d ever tried to photograph lightning and I got a few decent shots before it started to pour down rain. The mountain range behind us was getting a tremendous amount of lightning so I focused in

Sunsets & Clouds

This is the rainy season in San Miguel de Allende. We get rain almost every late afternoon. When the clouds gather around the mountains it makes for some really pretty sunsets. Here are a few of my favorite photos of clouds and sunsets taken from our rooftop patio. Enjoy!

Beautiful Queretaro

While San Miguel de Allende is a beautiful colonial city, Queretaro is a very close second. It’s only an hour from SMA and has a beautiful colonial central area. Bill and I had to take the car in for service today and Queretaro has the closest dealership so while the car was being serviced we decided to stroll the downtown streets. It’s quite beautiful with parks, churches, restaurants and shops.

Morelia in HDR

I’m not a big fan of HDR as so often it looks over-baked, but when you’re bored at home it’s kind of fun to see what you can create using the HDR processing. Her are a few photos from our trip to Morelia that I processed as HDR images. Enjoy! P.S. While I was at I decided to swap out the skies using Skylum’s Luminar program. It does a pretty
