This is our local cemetery. It’s located about 2 miles up the road from our house. Since Did de Muertos has been pretty much canceled this year due to the virus I thought I’d pay a visit to the cemetery. There are several cemeteries in town and the ones located in centro date back hundreds of years. This cemetery seems a bit newer and is really for the “common” person.
It that time of year. It’s time for monarch butterflies to migrate to Michoacán, Mexico. I’ve had the extreme pleasure of witnessing this extraordinary event the last two years, but with COVID-19 this year I’m not sure if people will be able to visit the butterflies. Yesterday Bill and I took the girls, Juliet and Harlee, to Dolores Hidalgo. Dolores Hidalgo is considered a Pueblo Magico and a wonderful town about 40 minutes from San Miguel de Allende. Wednesday was Mexican Independence. San Miguel de Allende started off the holiday with a fireworks display Tuesday night. I went over to our friends Kathy and Michael’s house where we had a nice view of the Parroquia in centro from the rooftop. We had the most amazing thunderstorm last night. There was lightning in every direction so I decided to go out and see if I couldn’t capture a few photos. This was the first time I’d ever tried to photograph lightning and I got a few decent shots before it started to pour down rain. With the town pretty much shut down due to the COVID-19 I haven’t been out and about too much for photos. Instead, here are some miscellaneous photos I’ve pulled off of my phone.
While San Miguel de Allende is a beautiful colonial city, Queretaro is a very close second. It’s only an hour from SMA and has a beautiful colonial central area. Bill and I had to take the car in for service today and Queretaro has the closest dealership so while the car was being serviced we decided to stroll the downtown streets. It’s quite beautiful with parks, churches, restaurants and shops.
